Faces of Fisdap: Kurt VanOordt

February 5, 2020

The “Faces of Fisdap” series is an opportunity for friends of Fisdap to get to know the people behind the products and services you know and love. Each article will feature an interview with a Fisdap team member and will provide insight into their role, why they choose to work for Fisdap, and some fun facts about the team member. You won’t want to miss this series!
This month, we had the chance to speak with Kurt VanOordt.

Kurt VanOordt was born, raised, and still resides in Coast Guard City USA, Grand Haven, MI. 30 years ago, Margot Hamm, also living in Grand Haven her entire life, saw Kurt walking through the metal shop at a manufacturer where he was utilizing his accounting degree. That’s all it took. Today, they have three amazing children; Paige – 23 (recently engaged), Brooke – 22, and Noah – 20. A beautiful new Yorkipoo named Beaux has also recently joined the VanOordt family. Prior to working for Fisdap, Kurt was a Controller for a large Michigan-based automotive supplier, an independent sales person, and a manufacturer rep group owner. In 2011, Kurt was introduced to an incredible niche market, EMS. Today, he loves using his education and diverse career to become a trusted advisor with customers and new prospects.

What’s your favorite part of your job here at Fisdap?

I have worked in several different industries through my career. The public safety market is the best! I have developed many sincere friendships over the last nine years. My favorite part of my job is helping a customer discover a way to make their daily workload easier and less stressful. This may happen many ways; introducing a prospective customer to The Fisdap Way, having a customer say “You’ve saved my bacon!," hearing a troubled Program Director not hang up the call before saying to their colleague, “OMG, I feel SOOOO much better!” I simply enjoy helping others.

What is one thing that people are surprised to find out about you?

I was on QVC. What an incredible experience. Working through the sales process, successfully closing the deal, becoming QVC certified, and sweating my way through my 15 minutes of fame. The QVC certification process really helped me fine tune my ability to be a trusted advisor to my customers and not just their salesperson. The whole process focused on “selling” like you are talking to your neighbor over the white picket fence.

What’s the best thing about the city you live in?

It’s simple, Ohana. Grand Haven is a beautiful small community that is family focused. I love working out in the yard and gardens in the spring. The boat goes in the water as soon as the marina will put it in and usually gets taken out the last week of October. Fall is spent enjoying the beautiful colors while hiking the dunes of Lake Michigan. Although it doesn’t snow like it did when I was a kid, we still average 74” every winter. Yes, I still love it.

Stay tuned for the next “Faces of Fisdap” feature!
